The Different Overwatch Competitive Play Match Formats

 

The Competitive play mode offers players different match formats. Yes, there is more to competitive mode than simply "Quick Play". So you can select from different formats of balanced gameplay if you wish to participate in this game mode. And with each map on this mode, you can expect play a particular kind of match format.

 

Control Maps - In control maps, teams play against each other in a best-of-five rounds match. This means you can expect to play at least three games or at most, five games. A game ends immediately if a team successfully captures a control point. Scores are updated and announced once each game ends. After one team reaches three points, the game will end and that team is declared the winner of the match.

 

Take note, there is a map rule in this format. The first 3 games of the match will be played in all the sub-areas of a control map. The last 2 games of the match will be played in randomly picked 2 sub-areas of that control map. Know more about overwatch boost.

 

Assault Maps - In this map, players participate in two games in one rotation. This means each team gets to be the attacking and defending team. Both teams change sides at the end of each game. The attacking team earns a point if it is able to capture a control point. The score and remaining time is announced at the end o each game.

 

If the scores of both teams are tied after two rounds, each team will have the opportunity to play a second round of offense. However, instead of playing for five minutes, the teams will only have a chance to play for whatever is left of their time during their previous offensive round.

 

Escort Maps - These maps also allow players to be part of an attacking and defending team as one rotation. When a game ends, the teams will switch sides. At the end of each game, the score, remaining time, and distance traveled will be announced.

 

Hybrid Maps - Similar to assault and escort maps, teams have the opportunity to attack and defend in one rotation. After one game, teams will change sides. Attacking teams gain a point for capturing a control point. Another opportunity to gain a point is when an attacking team reaches a checkpoint.
